Students Defend Brookshaw

Angry students voiced their displeasure over the removal of Keith Brookshaw as Dean of Students at the March 11 meeting of the board of trustees.

Honor to Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury

Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury was awarded one of four 2009 Hayward Awards for Excellence in Education, sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges. The award is given to honor community college faculty members who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to their students, college and profession. Waterbury is the second Shasta College instructor to receive the state award. English instructor Dr. Frank Nigro was honored in 2006. Waterbury was recognized during the March 11, 2009, meeting of the Shasta College board of trustees meeting by college president Gary Lewis. Video by Larry Andrews. The campus is located on 337 acres, and is referred to as the Stillwater campus because it is bordered by Stillwater Creek on the East Side. The District also owns an additional 350 acres in Bella Vista. The District encompasses the counties of Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity, and small portions of Lassen, Modoc, and Humboldt counties and covers approximately 10,000 square miles, which is larger than the state of Massachusetts. The District operates extended education sites in Anderson, Burney, McArthur, Corning, Los Molinos, Red Bluff, the Redding Rancheria, and Weaverville.
