Shasta College trustees gather for rare Burney meeting, OK forestry A.S. degree program

An application for a new forest science and technology program at Shasta College was approved by trustees when they met in Burney for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The program was developed in response to an ongoing need through northern California for well-trained forestry technicians. “There has certainly been a need,” said Shasta College instructor Ken Nolte. “Far and away more jobs than I have students at this time.” To hear more of his comments, click on the photo. Knights Homecoming

The Knights scored 15 fourth-quarter points in a losing effort at their Homecoming/Hall of Fame game played at Memorial Stadium. The 23-15 Mid-Empire Conference loss to the Sacramento City Panthers drops Shasta’s record to 0-1 MEC, 1-5 overall. Geology field trip

Shasta College instructor Randy Reed leads a group of students studying the geology of the Modoc Plateau during three-day field trip. Some of the sites explored included Medicine Lake, Lava Beds National Monument, Glass Mountain, Adin Pass and Petroglyph Point, among others. The one-unit course is offered every other year, with the next scheduled for fall 2008. Click on photo to access video.

Knights football

The Shasta College football team committed six turnovers in an 18-7 loss to visiting Feather River at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 29, 2005. The Knights (1-2 Mid-Empire Conference, 2-6 overall) quarterback Chad Cavender was 18-of-36 for 200 yards in the second half, with three interceptions. In the beginning, he completed 10 of his first 13 passes. Shasta had 30 yards rushing the whole game and 34 yards total offense in the second half, all on its final drive. The Shasta College Knights record dropped to 1-5 following the game at Memorial Stadium where Sierra College defeated the host team at its homecoming/hall of fame game, 45-6. Click on photo to access video.

Associated Student Body President James Boeckholt reported on the activities of ASB before trustees of the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District when the board met Oct. 12, 2005. Click on photo to access video.

The campus is located on 337 acres, and is referred to as the Stillwater campus because it is bordered by Stillwater Creek on the East Side. The District also owns an additional 350 acres in Bella Vista. The District encompasses the counties of Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity, and small portions of Lassen, Modoc, and Humboldt counties and covers approximately 10,000 square miles, which is larger than the state of Massachusetts. The District operates extended education sites in Anderson, Burney, McArthur, Corning, Los Molinos, Red Bluff, the Redding Rancheria, and Weaverville.
