The Lady Knights crushed Mission College 89-34 in the first game of the Shasta Regional Tournament. Head coach Jerry Brown was very pleased with how his Lady Knights played.

ÒI thought the kids came out and played extremely well,Ó Brown said. ÒThe Mission team is not a very good basketball team. We didnÕt lower ourselves to that. At the very start, the starters came out and played extremely hard and well. ItÕs hard to know whoÕs the leading scorer when you play a game like that.Ó Guard Lisa Taylor came off the bench and led the Lady Knights with 13 points.

ÒLisa shot the ball extremely well, so I was very proud of her,Ó said Brown.

ÒIt was really fun but I think we owe it to the first string coming out and playing very hard,Ó said Taylor.

Lady Knights fall to Merced 56-51 after blowing a 42-34 lead late in the second half

ÒYou canÕt beat a quality team like that with the mistakes that weÕve made,Ó said Brown. ÒWe gave up too many second shots and we didnÕt make a stretch when we really needed to. Against lesser teams, you can get away with it but against good quality teams you got to play good basketball and we didnÕt.Ó

Lady Knights let another one escape, this time to Santa Rosa, 57-54.

ÒMistakes and mistakes toward the end,Ó said Brown.  ÒMissed assignments defensivelyÉ The bottom line is I didnÕt do a good job myself, probably the last minute or so. I should have done a better job from the sideline as far as what I needed to do,Ó he said. ÒI thought we battled very well and we didnÕt make the plays we needed to towards the end.Ó

Sophomore forward Amanda Potts led the Knights with 11 points. ÒWeÕre an inexperienced team and we need to work hard at closing it out,Ó said Potts.
